Coming out of the 2nd week of the Celebrate Studio Ghibli the rankings now include My Neighbour Totoro and Only Yesterday.
Alas this will probably be it for me as I’ve gotten sick and don’t want to spend more time than I have to away from central heating and copious quantities of tea.

A Letter to Momo (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
When I previewed the 2013 Reel Anime season my comment about A Letter to Momo was “I get a sense that this is almost a My Neighbour Totoro for the 21st century.”
That’s a fairly accurate assessment, albeit that the parts of the totoros are played by irrepressible rogues and goblins that have to rise far above their natures in order to do good. Continue reading

This is very cute. Although I have a lingering feeling that Totoro is best represented by plushies.
Some people can do/choose to do next level things with Lego. This is cool.

For me a favourite will be something that I watch primarily, if not purely, for pleasure. There may well be substance to it, but that alone won’t make it a favourite.
So it shouldn’t come as any surprise to find out that my favourite anime film is My Neighbour Totoro. As with Cardcaptor Sakura (day 2) this is a film I watch for soul food, something to come away from with a renewed sense of wonder in the world.
And for the record, the bus stop scene never gets old. 🙂
