In the wake of the Heaven’s Feel movies and also the Absolute Demonic Front TV series the bar for Fate anime generally has been set a whole lot higher now.

The Fate/Grand Order – Divine Realm of the Round Table: Camelot: Wandering; Airgetlám isn’t a bad movie, it’s pleasant enough to watch but it’s mostly just there. Which is the whole problem.

So, where does Airgetlám[1] fail, and how?

Fate/Grand Order – Absolute Demonic Front: Babylonia, aka fgo_ep7[1] was a solid game adaptation, albeit with what I suspect is the usual degree of Continuity Lockout[2] for this type of show.

Overall much of what I said when I compared the opening episodes of KanColle, fgo_ep7, and Azur Lane is applicable to the whole series: fgo_ep7 is tightly focused on Mash and Ritsuka, and their character dynamics are what make the show work.

Well, I’ve finally gotten round to the anime series I signed up to Netflix to watch in the first place: Fate/Apocrypha.

At the halfway point I’m reasonably impressed.

If you can get past the Continuity Lockout, Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel I. presage flower is the best that Fate/Stay Night has ever looked, albeit with a very choppy edit and very little time to connect with the characters. Many spoilers ahead.

Having reviewed the major components of the Fate/Stay Night franchise to date[1], what are my thoughts on the franchise as a whole?

I have appreciated each of the instalments in different ways, but might have approached the series differently under different circumstances.

Then I had other thoughts about the Servants, a possible meta structure for the franchise that is based entirely on my own biases, and some adaptational concerns across the franchise.
