I am finding Chihayafuru part 3 to be an odd experience to watch at the moment. Having seen the live action movies, and especially Chihayafuru Musubi, I am getting a sense of deja vu constantly.

In a very real sense much of what made Chihayafuru Musubi sing for me as a movie is being established in Chihayafuru part 3, a sense reinforced by the fact that this season of the anime is currently in part of the time skip between the second live action movie and Chihayafuru Musubi.

I saw Chihayafuru Musubi recently and it was fabulous. I really wish someone would license the whole trilogy for local release because I want another look at Chihaya’s character arc from start to finish.

Major spoilers ahead.

I really can’t review this without going into details so if all you want to know is: should I see this film then the answer is absolutely[1], especially if you enjoyed Chihayafuru: Kami no Ku and Chihayafuru: Shimo no Ku.

With Chihayafuru part 3 set to commence filming in 2017, I had some thoughts on possible themes/directions for the plot.

Chihayafuru season 2 isn’t as strong as season 1, but does still leave me hoping for an eventual season 3.

Alas, and despite[1] the recent live-action movies[2], there’s no sign of that as yet.

Copious spoilers ahead, and I’m more or less assuming that you’re familiar with the premise and characters from season 1 (which I also spoil by way of comparison).
