Recently the otherwise excellent Ticket to Ride app on the iPad had an “upgrade”. The most noticeable change was this:

DID YOU KNOW IT’S YOUR TURN NOW? IT’S YOUR TURN NOW!

So, this bar and image appears across the screen every single time it’s your turn, even in solo play against the AIs.

Now, I could possibly forgive this if:

  1. The bar disabled taps elsewhere so you can’t accidentally take a wrong action, and/or
  2. There was a setting that would let you disable this “feature”, at least in solo play.

No prizes for guessing that neither of the above are in evidence.

If, for example, your tap to clear the bar is on the face down deck then congratulations you just drew a face down card. I hope that you didn’t want the face up card that was hidden by the bar.

This is legendarily bad UX design. This is Netflix does anime levels of bad UX design.

Why would you do this to us Ticket to Ride? WHY?
