I just heard that SwanCon 2020: Dark Visions has been cancelled due to the corona virus. This is sad news, as I’ve observed before SwanCon is my “home” convention in so many ways, and I’ve been to every single SwanCon since 1986 (SwanCon 11, C.J. Cherryh was Guest of Honour, and she’s fabulous to talk to BTW).
SwanCon 2020 as SwanCon 45 would have been my 35th SwanCon. Note to self: I really must talk to the next committee about picking up my 33 SwanCons badge.
I do want to offer kudos to the SwanCon 45 committee and the Board of the Western Australian Science Fiction Foundation (WASFF) for automatically rolling the cancelled memberships forward to SwanCon 46. Alternatively you may request a refund by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org by 01 May 2020.
I haven’t decided yet if I’ll go to Perth anyway (given that my flights are already booked and may not be refundable). Watch this space.
In the meantime, it must have been a hard decision, and the SwanCon 45 committee and the WASFF Board have my sympathies at the moment.
Question of the Post: Have you been a SwanCon attendee? Would you go again? What do you love about SwanCon as a community?
