Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

I really don’t know why I watched Nogisaka Haruka no Himitsu [1], my best guess is that I was bored and it was mostly amusing.

The school idol Nogisaka Haruka is beautiful, talented at everything, and is secretly an otaku. Her anime fandom came out at her middle school and ruined her social status there. Haruka is desperate to keep the secret this time, and an accidental discovery by Ayase Yuuto spells the end of her happy high school life.

Of course Yuuto is a decent chap and promises to help Haruka keep the secret AND pursue her fandoms by escorting her to Akihabara. What could possibly go wrong?

This series is basically a high school romance comedy of errors filled with a loon squad of supporting characters, the apparent anime obsession with the obscenely rich [2], fanservice [3], a clueless girl who doesn’t recognise the growing romance, and a slightly less clueless guy who needs to be pushed into making a move.

All pretty standard fare, and very lightweight. For the most part [4] though it is actually amusing, and I enjoyed what I saw. The first season is only 12 episodes so it won’t waste too much of your time.

[1] The series title basically translates as Haruka Nogisaki’s Secret.

[2] ala Ouran High Host Club, Inu X Boku SS, Maria-Sama ga Miteru to name just three.

[3] Fortunately most of the worst examples of the Fanservice are provided by allegedly adult characters.

[4] There was one of the early episodes that I never finished.
