In a recent comment Grant Watson [1] noted that for The Cat Returns “the Disney dub, featuring Cary Elwes, Anne Hathaway and Tim Curry, is awesome.”

I’m not sure I’d go all the way to awesome, but the dub is fun and contains some truly inspired casting choices that would only be available to a studio like Disney.

Casting Cary Elwes [2] as Baron Humbert von Gikkingen was just so appropriate, and worked so well, as to be a nearly perfect choice.

Anne Hathaway delivers a strong performance as Haru hitting the right notes of uncertainty growing into confidence as the story progresses.

And then there’s the Cat King, which really requires a Large Ham willing to massively Chew on the Scenery.

Tim Curry, come on down! Tim Curry’s Cat King is hilarious to listen to, and plays off the other characters really well.

Most of the supporting cast are solid, but it is these three that really make the dub work.

In the future I’d be happy to watch The Cat Returns in either the dub or the sub, and it isn’t often that I say that.
